What is Dubai Internet City and who is it for?
Dubai Internet City is a Dubai-based technology community operating within the jurisdiction of the Dubai Development Authority (DDA). Its FAQ says the free zone was established in 2000 by decree and has a distinct legal status in the UAE. For a prospective founder, the relevant starting point is the stated business focus: technology services, software, artificial intelligence, cloud, virtual reality, network solutions, e-commerce, big data, IT services, telecommunications and blockchain technologies. It can therefore be a focused option where the actual activity sits within that technology-led scope.

Which business activities and license types does Dubai Internet City offer?
The reviewed FAQ does not publish a closed list of licence labels by activity. Instead, it identifies the business fields Dubai Internet City welcomes and describes two establishment routes: a new Free Zone Limited Liability Company (FZ-LLC), or a branch of an existing foreign or UAE company. An FZ-LLC already registered in Dubai Internet City may apply for a Dual License under Law No. 13. Activity eligibility, the legal form and any dual-licence route should be checked against the proposed operating model before filing.

How many residence visas can a Dubai Internet City company sponsor?
Dubai Internet City's FAQ links employee-visa capacity to leased commercial space: it states that one employee visa is allocated for every 60 square feet, and that a company can sponsor one employee per 60 square feet of leased space. The same FAQ says axs, TECOM's servicing arm, can arrange employee visas. This published commercial-space ratio should be considered alongside the actual lease and staffing plan; the relevant allocation for a particular application should be confirmed at consultation.

What office options does Dubai Internet City require: flexi desk, office or warehouse?
The reviewed FAQ presents commercial spaces and retail spaces, and its on-page offering material also names warehouses and light industrial units. It additionally says a company may use a build-to-suit service to design and construct commercial space to its requirements. The reviewed page does not state a general flexi-desk entitlement or publish a single workspace requirement applying to every FZ-LLC or branch. The appropriate lease, whether a conventional office, warehouse or another available space, should be selected against the activity and visa plan and confirmed at consultation.

How much does a Dubai Internet City license cost and what is included?
The reviewed Dubai Internet City FAQ does not publish a single licence price or a standard package-inclusion schedule. It says its pricing structure is designed to be competitive and aligned with prevailing market rates, while describing licensing, registration, immigration, building and fit-out permits among its services. Because formation route, activity, premises and immigration requirements can differ, no all-purpose total should be inferred from that description. The applicable official charge and the selected scope must be confirmed at consultation.

How long does it take to set up a company in Dubai Internet City?
Dubai Internet City describes a three-step route: submit an application; submit the necessary documents and payment; then sign and collect the documents. Its FAQ says company registration usually takes 7 working days once required documents and payments are submitted, split into 4 working days for initial approval and 3 working days for licence issuance. A separate FAQ answer says a trade licence is issued within 48 hours after fees and relevant documentation are submitted. Since those statements describe different or potentially overlapping milestones, the timing for the individual case should be confirmed at consultation.

Can a Dubai Internet City company open a corporate bank account in the UAE?
The reviewed Dubai Internet City FAQ identifies licensing, registration, immigration and related government and corporate services, but it does not publish a corporate-bank-account approval route, a list of participating banks or bank onboarding criteria. Incorporation should therefore be treated separately from a bank's independent customer-onboarding decision. Before applying, founders should prepare a clear explanation of the activity, ownership, expected transactions, counterparties and operating substance, then confirm the suitable banking approach with the chosen bank and at consultation.

Does a Dubai Internet City company pay Corporate Tax and VAT?
Neither the reviewed Dubai Internet City FAQ nor the reviewed UAE government family-residency page sets out a Dubai Internet City company's Corporate Tax or VAT treatment. A free-zone address, by itself, should not be treated as a complete tax conclusion. The position may depend on the company's activities, income, counterparties, compliance and other facts of the operating model. Obtain current tax advice before relying on a particular Corporate Tax or VAT outcome and confirm the required registrations and filings for the proposed business.

Dubai Internet City vs Dubai Media City vs Dubai World Trade Centre Free Zone: which one fits your business?
The decision is better made from the business activity and operating environment than from a general ranking. Dubai Internet City publishes a technology-led focus covering software, AI, cloud, VR, network solutions, e-commerce, big data, IT, telecommunications and blockchain. Dubai Media City describes a media and entertainment community serving media, entertainment, film, broadcasting, e-commerce, gaming, music, printing, advertising and events. Dubai World Trade Centre Free Zone presents itself as a company-formation and licensing hub in Dubai's central business district, serving entrepreneurs through multinationals across multiple industries.

Dubai Internet City may be the closer starting point for a technology company whose proposed activity fits its published digital-economy scope and whose intended establishment is an FZ-LLC or branch. Dubai Media City may be more directly aligned with a media or entertainment operation; its official FAQ identifies FZ-LLC, branch and freelance-permit formats. Dubai World Trade Centre Free Zone may merit review where the activity falls within its published Event Management, Family Offices, Virtual Assets, E-commerce, Commercial, Professional or General Trading categories, subject to the applicable requirements.

Each comparison should also test practical requirements rather than simply matching a sector label. Dubai Internet City's published employee-visa ratio is tied to leased commercial space, while its FAQ lists commercial spaces, warehouses and light industrial units among the available offering material. Dubai Media City and Dubai World Trade Centre Free Zone should be assessed through their own activity, establishment and premises rules. Review the free-zone overview at /free-zones, then compare /free-zones/dmc and /free-zones/dwtc before selecting a route.

How does Nuances and Co. set up your company in Dubai Internet City?
Nuances and Co. begins by recording the proposed activity, shareholder and company history, intended establishment route, staffing and visa needs, premises expectations, and operating plan. It then organises the submission around Dubai Internet City's published sequence: application, supporting documents and payment, followed by signing and collection of documents. This enables the proposed FZ-LLC or branch route, space requirement and any potential dual-licence discussion to be considered against the actual business facts before submission.

The engagement then coordinates document readiness, selected premises and signatures, while keeping banking, tax and immigration questions as separate confirmations for the individual operating model. Nuances and Co. does not treat a licence name as a substitute for checking activity eligibility, workspace and compliance needs. The service is quoted individually. For broader preparation, use /guide and the free-zone hub at /free-zones.

What the free zone fee does not include
The authority's fee is only one part of the total. On top of it, most founders pay for residence visa processing, the Emirates ID and the medical test, the office or flexi-desk option, opening a corporate bank account, bookkeeping, Corporate Tax registration and, when it applies, VAT, and the annual renewal of the licence and visas. Founders from Brazil, Portugal and Angola also need to plan the tax side in their home country before the company starts invoicing.
