What is JAFZA and who is it for?
JAFZA, the Jebel Ali Free Zone, is in Jebel Ali, Dubai. JAFZA describes itself as DP World’s flagship free zone and a customs-bonded trade and logistics ecosystem. In practical terms, it is a formation and operating environment for businesses that need the company licence, a suitable premises solution and a logistics-minded location to be considered together rather than as separate decisions.

Which business activities and license types does JAFZA offer?
JAFZA’s official licence page presents Trading, Service, Industrial and Logistics licences. It also states that JAFZA follows directives issued by Dubai’s economic department and inherits the published business-activity list. Applicants should begin with a precise description of what the company will do, then map that description to the relevant permitted activities instead of choosing a licence label alone.

How many residence visas can a JAFZA company sponsor?
The residence-visa allocation for a JAFZA company is confirmed at consultation. The reviewed JAFZA licence page does not publish a single visa quota that applies to every company, formation type and facility arrangement, so no universal number should be used when planning the company.
Source: JAFZA — Business Licence · https://www.jafza.ae/business-setup/business-license/ · September 2026
What office options does JAFZA require: flexi desk, office or warehouse?
JAFZA’s setup process requires the company to select one or more solutions on lease and to put a lease contract in place. The authority then describes signing the lease agreement for the selected solution before moving into the premises. The appropriate solution should therefore be chosen from the business model, the physical operation and the staffing plan rather than assumed to be a generic flexi-desk arrangement.

How much does a JAFZA license cost and what is included?
The official page makes clear that the cost of a Trading or Service licence is determined by the business activities added, and it links to JAFZA’s cost calculator. Formation type, licence type, chosen activities and leased solution are all part of the setup choices; there is not a single meaningful all-inclusive price that applies to every applicant.

How long does it take to set up a company in JAFZA?
JAFZA estimates company setup at 3 to 14 business days from submission of all required documents, depending on the company formation type, licence and business categories. Its FAQ also says a lease agreement needs to be in place at the time of setup. This is an authority-published estimate, not a promise for a particular file or a substitute for reviewing approvals and document readiness.

Can a JAFZA company open a corporate bank account in the UAE?
A completed JAFZA formation and business licence establish the company’s legal identity and authorisation to conduct its approved economic activities in Dubai. They do not, by themselves, amount to a corporate bank account. A corporate account application should be planned as a separate onboarding process after the company documents and business rationale are ready.

Does a JAFZA company pay Corporate Tax and VAT?
A JAFZA company should not assume that free-zone status alone answers every UAE tax question. The UAE Government’s taxation overview states that the UAE levies Corporate Tax on the net income or profit of corporations and other entities from their business. The company’s actual tax treatment should be checked against its activity, income, transactions and current tax rules before it begins trading.

JAFZA vs Dubai South vs KEZAD: which one fits your business?
JAFZA is the most direct fit of these options where the plan centres on Jebel Ali trade and logistics, physical goods, a customs-bonded environment, or a facility model that may involve warehousing, showrooms, office space, land or a purpose-designed solution. Its official licence taxonomy explicitly addresses Trading, Service, Industrial and Logistics activities, so it merits close review when the operational model is more than a desk-based service company.

Dubai South is an integrated Dubai city and business ecosystem with aviation, logistics, infrastructure and free-zone operations. Its official setup material identifies a freelancer professional licence, DWC LLC company and branch routes. It may be the more natural comparison where the business has a Dubai South location rationale, aviation or distribution connection, or a relatively focused professional or company-formation requirement rather than the specific Jebel Ali facility ecosystem.

KEZAD is an Abu Dhabi group of economic and industrial zones with Free Zone and Domestic Economic Zone facilities. Its official materials address startups, wholesale distributors, re-exporters, warehousing operations, industrial projects, SMEs and larger businesses, and identify a dual-licence option for eligible Free Zone companies. It should be assessed where an Abu Dhabi location, Khalifa Port-area connectivity, industrial development or domestic-economy options are core to the model.

How does Nuances and Co. set up your company in JAFZA?
The engagement begins by turning the commercial plan into a defensible setup brief: proposed activities, products or services, shareholder and legal-structure requirements, target premises, team needs, intended markets and timing. That brief is then used to test whether Trading, Service, Industrial or Logistics licensing, and the prospective JAFZA formation route, match the operation the founders intend to run.

Next, the workstream organises the documentation, application sequence, authority communications, formation and licence choices, and the lease decision required by JAFZA’s published process. Where the business needs a warehouse, production facility, office, showroom or workstation solution, the premises choice is treated as part of the compliance and operating plan rather than as a later administrative task.

The process also separates authority-issued milestones from matters that require individual confirmation, including immigration capacity, tax treatment, banking review and activity-specific permissions. The service is quoted individually. This keeps the scope matched to the actual company plan and avoids presenting an assumed visa allocation, bank result, tax outcome or fixed package as if it applied to every JAFZA applicant.

For a lower entry cost, compare with Shams (from AED 5,760 per year) and Meydan (from AED 12,500), as published on their official websites.

How much does it cost to open a company in JAFZA in 2026?

With Nuances, company setup starts from AED 6,000, including the official free zone fee. The final cost depends on the free zone, the activity and the number of visas.
What the free zone fee does not include
The authority's fee is only one part of the total. On top of it, most founders pay for residence visa processing, the Emirates ID and the medical test, the office or flexi-desk option, opening a corporate bank account, bookkeeping, Corporate Tax registration and, when it applies, VAT, and the annual renewal of the licence and visas. Founders from Brazil, Portugal and Angola also need to plan the tax side in their home country before the company starts invoicing.
