What is DMCC and who is it for?

DMCC is a Dubai government authority and an international centre for trade, commerce and innovation. Its official positioning presents a global business and trade hub headquartered in Dubai, where company formation and licensing sit alongside a wider commercial district. The setup route is designed for founders who want a Dubai free-zone company with full ownership, a digital application journey and a formal UAE business presence. It is not a single-industry licence: the authority presents its platform for professional services, trading, commercial activity and industry, subject to the activity selected and any relevant approvals.

Which business activities and license types does DMCC offer?

DMCC's published licence taxonomy includes Service, Trading, Commercial and Industrial licences. The Service Licence is for professional or consultancy activity, including advisory work, information-technology services and specialised expertise. The Trading Licence covers importing, exporting, distributing or selling goods. The Commercial Licence is positioned for broader trading across multiple product categories, while the Industrial Licence is for manufacturing that transforms natural materials and resources into final products. The activity wording selected in the application must match what the company will actually do.

How many residence visas can a DMCC company sponsor?

DMCC confirms that its visa services are available for business owners and employees, but it does not publish one fixed residence-visa quota for every company. The number of visas a company can apply for is determined by the size of its office space and the type of business licence it holds. Accordingly, the visa quota is confirmed at consultation after the intended workspace, licence activity and staffing plan are assessed. A company should not choose a minimal address solution if it expects to build a team whose visa requirement may call for different premises.

What office options does DMCC require: flexi desk, office or warehouse?

DMCC requires every company to have a registered business address within the free zone. Its official setup information identifies a flexi-desk, serviced office or dedicated workspace as ways to meet that address requirement. It also explains that the choice of office solution is made after the online pre-approval application, payment and document signing stages. This makes workspace a formation decision rather than a cosmetic add-on: the registered address must be suitable for the licence, the business model and the visa plan.

How much does a DMCC license cost and what is included?

The official fee published by DMCC, confirm at consultation. DMCC explains that establishment cost varies with the type of business and specific requirements, including licence duration and whether office space is included. For a reliable proposal, separate the authority's licence package from the office solution, any visa-related requirements, regulated-activity approvals and the documents needed for the chosen legal structure. This avoids treating a headline package as a complete budget for a company whose activity or staffing plan needs additional elements.

How long does it take to set up a company in DMCC?

DMCC states that the entire company-formation process typically takes around 10 working days, depending on completed documentation and approvals. It also says the electronic licence is issued once registration is complete, and its FAQ states that the trade licence is issued electronically within 2-3 working days after the setup process is completed. These are authority statements, not a promise for every case. The practical timetable depends on how quickly the applicant provides complete and consistent shareholder, ownership, address and business information.

Can a DMCC company open a corporate bank account in the UAE?

A DMCC company can apply to open a UAE corporate bank account, but the bank makes its own onboarding and risk decision. DMCC's formation documentation refers to a bank reference or capital-deposit confirmation where applicable, and its licensing information notes that a banking partner may offer instalment options subject to that bank's own terms and eligibility requirements. A free-zone licence is therefore an important corporate document, not an automatic account approval. Bank selection, expected transaction profile and evidence of the operating business should be prepared early.

Does a DMCC company pay Corporate Tax and VAT?

DMCC states that it is a geographically designated and defined area in the UAE and is considered a qualified free zone for purposes of the UAE Corporate Tax Law. Its formation page says that businesses operating in the free zone may benefit from a 0% Corporate Tax rate on qualifying income, as specified by the relevant Corporate Tax Cabinet and Ministerial decisions. This is not a blanket statement that every item of income receives that treatment. A company needs to assess whether it qualifies under the applicable law and decisions, based on its actual activity and income profile.

DMCC vs DIFC vs JAFZA: which one fits your business?

DMCC is the more natural starting point when the proposed company needs a broadly framed trade, service, commercial or industrial licence within a digitally administered Dubai free-zone setting. Its official materials combine new-company formation, Individual, Subsidiary and Branch formats, a registered-address requirement and workspace choices ranging from flexi-desk to larger offices. It can fit a services founder, a trading operation or a company with a wider multi-category commercial plan, subject to the selected activity and required approvals. Explore the wider jurisdiction overview at /free-zones and the practical setup guidance at /guide.

DIFC is positioned differently: its official setup material describes a financial free zone and platform for financial and non-financial firms, as well as AI, FinTech and innovation firms and retail and leisure businesses. That framing can make DIFC the more relevant route when the enterprise belongs in a financial-centre environment or its regulatory and market positioning requires that ecosystem. Read the dedicated comparison profile at /free-zones/difc, then compare the legal, licensing, workspace and regulatory implications against the actual business model rather than relying on a generic ranking.

JAFZA is positioned as DP World's flagship free zone and a customs-bonded trade and logistics ecosystem in Jebel Ali. Its published licence categories are Trading, Service, Industrial and Logistics, and its sector profile includes logistics, distribution, manufacturing and related commercial supply chains. That can make JAFZA the stronger fit where physical movement of goods, logistics infrastructure or an industrial footprint is central to the operating plan. Read the dedicated comparison profile at /free-zones/jafza. The final decision should weigh activity permissions, customer geography, premises, visas, banking and tax advice together.

How does Nuances and Co. set up your company in DMCC?

The engagement begins by translating the commercial plan into a formation brief: proposed activities, intended customers and markets, shareholder profile, preferred legal form, office needs, visa expectations and banking priorities. That brief is then checked against DMCC's published Individual, Subsidiary and Branch routes and its Service, Trading, Commercial and Industrial licence categories. The purpose is not to force a pre-set package, but to identify the authority requirements that are relevant to the file before the online application begins. The advisory service is quoted individually.

The practical work then centres on document readiness, portal sequencing and decision support. This includes checking identification, ownership and business documents; preparing the activity and company-name information; aligning the registered-office choice with the intended visa plan; and tracking any request for additional approvals. After the licence stage, the file can be organised for the next steps, such as residence formalities and a bank-account application, while recognising that government bodies and banks retain their own review authority. The result is a structured route through a digital process, with the unresolved variables confirmed before they become avoidable delays.

What the free zone fee does not include

The authority's fee is only one part of the total. On top of it, most founders pay for residence visa processing, the Emirates ID and the medical test, the office or flexi-desk option, opening a corporate bank account, bookkeeping, Corporate Tax registration and, when it applies, VAT, and the annual renewal of the licence and visas. Founders from Brazil, Portugal and Angola also need to plan the tax side in their home country before the company starts invoicing.
