What is Dubai Media City and who is it for?
Dubai Media City presents itself as a media and entertainment community in Dubai, with business services alongside commercial spaces, studios, sound stages and retail offerings. Its official FAQ positions the community for freelancers, startups, SMEs and larger enterprises whose work sits across media and creative activities. This makes it a sector-led location to assess where the proposed activity is genuinely connected to the media, entertainment or creative economy, rather than a general-purpose licence choice made by name alone.

Which business activities and license types does Dubai Media City offer?
The Dubai Media City material identifies media, entertainment, film, broadcasting, e-commerce, gaming, music, printing, advertising and events among the activities its community covers. It also identifies FZ-LLC and Branch establishment formats and a Freelance Permit route. The reviewed FAQ does not publish a closed, activity-by-activity licence taxonomy, so eligibility for the exact proposed activity, and the suitable establishment format, must be checked with the authority at consultation rather than inferred from a broad sector label.

How many residence visas can a Dubai Media City company sponsor?
Dubai Media City's FAQ says that axs, TECOM Group's smart-services arm, can arrange employee visas and that family and domestic-help sponsorship is available. It does not state a fixed residence-visa allocation for every company or establishment format. The available allocation should therefore be confirmed for the selected company structure, activity and workspace before an application is submitted, rather than assumed from the existence of visa services.

What office options does Dubai Media City require: flexi desk, office or warehouse?
Dubai Media City says it offers offices in several sizes and locations, including fitted and non-fitted options, and says an occupier can design and construct an office around its requirements and business needs. Its public FAQ also lists commercial spaces, coworking space, boutique studios and sound stages among the community offerings. However, the reviewed page does not publish a universal flexi-desk, office or warehouse requirement for every setup; the workspace tied to the proposed activity and company application must be confirmed at consultation.
Source: Dubai Media City — FAQs · https://dmc.ae/connect/faqs · September 2026
How much does a Dubai Media City license cost and what is included?
The reviewed Dubai Media City FAQ does not state a single public licence price or a standard inclusion list that applies to every formation. It points prospective businesses to the authority for business setup and describes varied office and service options, so the total depends on the approved activity, establishment format, visa needs and workspace selection. A reliable scope and the applicable official charge must be confirmed at consultation; a generic headline amount would not describe every case accurately.

How long does it take to set up a company in Dubai Media City?
Dubai Media City's reviewed FAQ confirms that axs provides licensing, registration and visa-related services, but it does not publish a fixed company-formation duration that applies to all applicants. Timing can only be assessed against the selected activity, shareholder documents, authority review, workspace choice and any immigration steps. The expected sequence and timing for the individual application should be confirmed at consultation rather than presented as a universal turnaround period.

Can a Dubai Media City company open a corporate bank account in the UAE?
Corporate banking should be handled as a separate workstream from Dubai Media City incorporation. The two reviewed official pages do not set out a bank-account approval process, eligibility standard or outcome for every DMC company. Founders should prepare to explain the activity, ownership, expected transactions, counterparties and operating substance, then confirm the banking approach at consultation. Company formation should not be treated as a published assurance that a bank will open an account.

Does a Dubai Media City company pay Corporate Tax and VAT?
The reviewed Dubai Media City FAQ does not determine Corporate Tax or VAT treatment for a particular company. Neither the community description nor its listed establishment formats is a substitute for analysing the company's activities, transactions, counterparties and compliance position. The appropriate tax treatment for the proposed operating model should be confirmed with current tax advice before the formation decision or commercial commitments are made.

Dubai Media City vs Dubai Internet City vs Dubai Design District (d3): which one fits your business?
The useful comparison starts with the operating model, not a ranking. Dubai Media City addresses media and entertainment activities including film, broadcasting, gaming, music, advertising and events, with FZ-LLC, Branch and Freelance Permit routes identified in its official material. Dubai Internet City is focused on technology and the digital economy, covering technology services, software, AI, cloud, VR, network solutions, e-commerce, big data, IT, telecom and blockchain. Dubai Design District (d3) is a hub for design, fashion and culture, addressing designers, creatives, startups, students, entrepreneurs and organisations in those sectors.

Dubai Media City may be the closer fit where the core activity is media, entertainment or the production and promotion work associated with those sectors. Dubai Internet City may be the more direct starting point where the primary business is technology or a digital-economy service; its official FAQ identifies FZ-LLC, Branch and Dual Licence setup options. Dubai Design District (d3) may be the closer option where the enterprise is genuinely centred on design, fashion or culture; its official material identifies Freezone/DDA, Mainland/DED and Freelance License routes. Exact activity eligibility and structure still need authority confirmation.

Workspace, visa planning, banking readiness and the intended route to customers should be assessed alongside sector fit. Dubai Media City's FAQ says its licence can operate only within the free zone, whereas the other profiles should be evaluated against their own published structures and the business's actual requirements. Review the broader free-zone overview at /free-zones, then compare the individual profiles at /free-zones/dic and /free-zones/d3 before selecting a jurisdiction.

How does Nuances and Co. set up your company in Dubai Media City?
The engagement begins by documenting the actual activity, shareholder profile, required establishment format, visa needs, planned workspace and intended operating model. Those inputs are checked against Dubai Media City's published community scope and its FZ-LLC, Branch and Freelance Permit routes, with activity eligibility and authority requirements confirmed before documents are prepared. This keeps the application connected to the facts of the business rather than treating a sector description as a substitute for approval.

Nuances and Co. then coordinates the documentation, selected workspace and authority-facing steps, while recording the assumptions that need confirmation, including visa allocation, banking and tax treatment. The process can also identify whether the planned customer route is compatible with the stated free-zone operating limit. The service is quoted individually. For broader preparation before a consultation, use /guide and the free-zone hub at /free-zones.

What the free zone fee does not include
The authority's fee is only one part of the total. On top of it, most founders pay for residence visa processing, the Emirates ID and the medical test, the office or flexi-desk option, opening a corporate bank account, bookkeeping, Corporate Tax registration and, when it applies, VAT, and the annual renewal of the licence and visas. Founders from Brazil, Portugal and Angola also need to plan the tax side in their home country before the company starts invoicing.
